My contents page..

Here is my contents page, I decided to stick with the colours of the Parkwood colours because it is more relevent. I chose one photo to have on the contents page because I didnt want there to be too many photos and too much to look at. I kept it quite simple but I think it is quite effective.

Why Call my magazine Unite?

The word unite... I feel is a really good name for a magazine for a sixth form because we are so much smaller than other colleges and everyone here works together because we see the same people all the time.

In the dictionary the word "unite" means: to join, combine, or incorporate so as to form a single whole or unit. Therefore it would be a good name for my magazine!

My first attempt at a magazine cover for sixth form

My First attempt... I have decided to call the magazine "unite" because sixth form is such a close community. I like the photo because it seems really simple but I think it would have worked even better if it was a mid-shot so that is why I am not using it as my front cover, I also think that there should be a couple of more people on the cover to show more of a community. Overall I like the cover but it is not suited to what the magazine is for and about so when I actually start doing my front cover I have this as a reference to look at.

Photoshop!

Here... I have practiced with my model Holly and changed the background to make it more vibrant and to make the face stand out. I have also changed the contrast so that the eyes stand out. Close ups are great for getting peoples attention and also she is looking straight at you so that she doesn't seem more superior and people don't feel as if they are inferior and they can interact with the person.
This.. mid-shot I left the background blank because it makes it seem cleaner and more professional a mid-shot is great for a magazine cover because its not so personal but you can still interact with the person in the picture.
A long shot is good because you can see the whole body but the picture seems more vacant because there would be more background to the picture.

The school magazine so far...

So far... Holly and I have chosen the name "Community" but we don't feel that this name would be adequate for our magazine so we are coming up with other options but we have decided that the name of our magazine should be linked with a "close" community because sixth form is a lot smaller than other colleges and we are much closer because we are so much smaller.

We have come up with the idea that students will be creating this magazine as it will be mainly students reading it but we still want to make it available for adults to look at too. We have decided that there will be four editions (for each season) so that there is up-to-date information for pupils to read.

The value in our magazine is going to be mainly about charity, drama productions and upcoming events as we want to make sure that students can really get involved.

In our magazine we have decided on having 16 Pages with a varied amount of stories and to have at least twenty different stories so that we can have double spreads and include more photos and more information. There will be a lot of photos on each page.

We are currently in the process of making a masthead on paper but the actual design of our masthead will be produced on photoshop.
